Hope4Cancer: Day Six — Hunger

By day six, I was famished!

Two hours past breakfast, I was hunting for sustenance. Gus from the kitchen brought me organic coconut water and some organic nuts. Some people have consumed raw food for years, but it was a new experience for me. It’s amazing how my taste buds had changed to accept them by the end of that day. From that day on, the kitchen staff checked on me to see if I needed anything, and I immediately regarded them as angels in disguise.

I think it’s important that we understand that our healers come in all different ways. It wasn’t just the doctors or the nurses; the kitchen staff was also all amazing. Another healer I met was Candelaria, a nutrition specialist. They could tell you exactly what I’d eaten for six months through hair analysis! One thing that surprised me was my number one priority: the need for healthy fat: avocados, wild fish, extra virgin oil, coconut oil, and coconut butter.

According to my hair analysis, I needed to avoid foods such as lettuce, raspberries, or broccoli for 90 days! For five months I had been eating these foods with the thought that they would be helpful in healing my body, but according to my individual analysis I needed to avoid them.

She also recommended the CrossFit approach for both exercise and food – just as when exercising, it is important to vary the foods that we consume in order to receive the maximum benefit.

CrossFit oxygenates your body, which helps strengthen your overall physical body. And when you CrossFit your food, you include rainbow colors, 60% uncooked, and 40% cooked. By eating this way, I would be flushing my body with nutrients.

Another good rule of thumb is to not eat the same thing seven days a week. Blueberries are excellent antioxidants, but they shouldn’t be eaten every day. Mix it up!

They recommended a few supplements but also gave me a choice on how to add them to my diet. So that was affirming to me.

I was also low in protein. No big surprise there because I’ve been so plant-based, plus chicken. But now I was to steer away from chicken and turkey and only include wild fish and organic beef three days a week. Organic beef? In all the books I’d read on cancer, that was unheard of. At this point in my journey, I realized I needed to follow one regimen. Too many experts…

If you see sugar…run! No regular sugar. Period. No added sugar, no alcohol, no dairy, and no processed grains.

Also, I am to avoid gluten because it can cause inflammation; but I’m already gluten-free because of my Hashimoto’s Disease.

Regarding diet, the most important thing is giving ourselves permission to make exceptions, but only occasionally. For instance, eat your favorite cookie at Thanksgiving or Christmas, but you don’t eat your favorite cookie every week.

These nutritional insights are already truly changing my body’s metabolism, and I am so grateful.
