Hope4Cancer: Day Four — Friendship
“We all have an expiration on this life. But my awakening is: ‘our love is eternal.’”

By day four, we had started making new friends in the IV rooms. Connection seemed essential. So, seven of us banded together as a core group to greet newcomers and offer them guidance and group support, including ensuring that no one had to eat by themselves or inviting them to a support group that we’d formed that met back at the hotel.
We talked about our fears and joys, and frustrations. One thing we all agreed on is that cancer is a life sentence, but not a death sentence – and we are all grateful for the experience of cancer – we are all forever changed. But in addition to talking about cancer, we discussed our feelings, shared prayer, and comforted each other. Some of the moms had lost babies or husbands, and others had sick family members at home. We understood that life didn’t stop because we were in treatment.
The group helped each of us to focus. We knew we had these three weeks to discover, surrender to, concentrate on, pray about, visualize, and practice our healing. So there we sat: physically connected to IVs and spiritually and emotionally connected to each other.
